Your CDs and DVDs
Will Look Better Than Ever,
Sooner Than Ever!
1. What is offset printing?
Offset printing presses use the same method as four-color process printing on paper, in which the four ink colors (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) are transferred from plates to rollers to the printed surface.
This technology was originally developed for printing on DVDs. Because offset printing applies a thin, even layer of ink, it solves the problem of unbalanced weight or “wobble” that sometimes occurs with silkscreening.
2. Why is offset printing superior to silkscreening?
Digital Excellence offset printing uses Toray waterless plates at a resolution of 175 lines per inch, producing consistent image quality from job to job.
Offset printing is superior to silkscreening for several reasons:
First, offset printing uses plates and rollers to transfer ink to the CD or DVD surface, giving a smooth, even appearance. This results in much less ink on the surface. In silkscreening, ink is forced through a screen mesh onto the surface. The mesh size of the screen, as well as other factors, determine the resolution—usually only 80-110 lines per inch. Silkscreening also leaves a much heavier coat of ink that you can actually feel.
Second, it is much easier to control the image quality with offset printing. In fact, we can precisely match your color proof.
Finally, offset printing eliminates the effects of screen marks and Moiré patterns that can be caused by traditional silkscreening.
3. What is the benefit of offset printing?
You want your products to look their absolute best! Whether you need them to stand out next to your competitors products or are re-selling product to your customers, you want the highest quality available. In order to capture new customers, gain market share or retain existing customers, only the best will do. Offset printing creates much more dramatic images for your CDs and DVDs with the highest quality available in the industry.
4. What projects are best suited for offset printing?
Offset printing is ideal for intricate full-color graphic designs, skin tones and crisp text. Offset printing also works well for jobs that require a smooth surface finish.
5. What projects are best suited for silkscreening?
Silkscreening is appropriate for 2- and 3-color jobs, especially those requiring PMS colors or complete, solid ink coverage.
